Melissa Ambrosini is one super-inspiring woman and I was so stoked to be at her recent book tour in Adelaide (at the beautiful Brick and Mortar Creative in Norwood) and spend 5 minutes chatting with this beautiful soul!
Melissa was totally in her element talking to a room full of eager and open-hearted women and over the course of the evening she gently encouraged us to embrace every aspect of ourselves, and to learn how to still the voice of our ‘mean girl’ (the ego) in order to live the fulfilling lives we were destined to live. It was so powerful – more than a month later I am seriously still integrating the lessons from the evening it was that powerful…
One of my favourite quotes from the event:
“Life’s not about being happy and positive all the time, it’s about honouring what’s really going on for you. Feeling the full spectrum of emotions is really important and something I have had to learn – that means the joy, pain, fear, anger, sorrow and everything in between.”
This rings so true – and is a lovely reminder that we don’t need to try and feel at peace all of the time but instead embrace whatever it is we are feeling and feel it fully – then release it.
We can and must allow ourselves to have the complete emotional scale, the highs and the lows!
I also loved her advice on words to eliminate from your vocabulary (as follows):
- should
- can’t
- busy
Totally! I am a big fan of eliminating should (and this one is already long-gone for me), but can’t and busy? Now they are gone too!
Another beautiful piece of wisdom she shared that really resonated with me was that if it isn’t a ‘hell yeah’ then it’s definitely a no! I love this because it’s a reminder that people-pleasing is a recipe for disaster. Yes it’s beautiful to want to help people, and do fun things and have an enjoyable life – but all of it must come from a place of genuine enthusiasm – otherwise it’s a recipe for resentment and unrest (and people can feel when you are half-hearted about something.)
Because I love what she had to say so much and want to share it with you – I have a signed copy of her latest book ‘Mastering Your Mean Girl’ to give away to a lucky subscriber. All you have to do is sign up here by this Friday the 18th of March and you will go in the draw to win yourself this awesome prize! If you are already a subscriber you will automatically go into the draw.
Winner will be announced on Monday the 21st of March. Good luck!!

Such a shame I missed the book tour but love your review and learning from the experience. And I too want to start to eliminate words – I hate the word ‘busy’ but find myself using and thinking it.. with this encouragement, its gone! Big love x

You would have loved it Claire! If you can hop on a plane to New York you might catch the next leg of her tour? 😉 He he.
Yes I fall into the ‘busy’ trap too – but there are other better words we can use – life is so full / overflowing / exciting right now. Good luck to us! x
