My journey towards a healthier body has been a gradual one. Like anything in life, when you’re making changes, it’s often good to start small rather than trying to change your whole life at once.
Over the years I’ve been slowly substituting my chemical-filled makeup and skin care for healthier versions.
Why you might ask? What’s the point? My decision to change my cosmetics and skin care is based on the philosophy that if you wouldn’t eat it, why put it on your body? If you use chemical-filled products, the chemicals will be absorbed across your skin barrier and into your blood.
So what do I use as my skin care repertoire?
For the face… it’s gentle natural Sukin facewash and Uniquely Natural moisturiser.
I love these because even though I have oily, problem skin, they are perfect for my complexion…and blissfully paraben free!
For my body… it’s skin brushing before the shower, followed by lathering with warmed coconut oil afterwards!

For my hair… also Uniquely Natural (or sometimes Sukin)
For my lips… I am in love with this natural lipstick from hemp organics!
Ok so it may not last as long as some other cosmetic brands, but at least you know it’s non-toxic!
And let’s be honest, at least 50% of the lipstick that goes on your mouth probably ends up in your stomach at some stage! Scary but true.
If you’re going to eat your lipstick, then in my opinion this is a much better option! If you’re feeling really adventurous, check out Wellness Mama’s amazing do-it-yourself lipstick recipe here
For my teeth… I use a herbal toothpaste, at the moment it’s a New Zealand brand Red Seal
Lastly for perfume… I have been experimenting with a few different essential oil blends as perfume.
I find essential oils far less intrusive than other synthetic perfumes, and they have the added benefit of the individual oils themselves (lavendar for calming, relieving headaches etc.)
This blend is a sleep blend, but as it contains lemon and eucalyptus I actually find it a little stimulating for sleep personally (so it’s fine for me to use during the day – just a few dabs on my wrists and neck and away I go!)
Remember, beauty is much more than skin deep! It comes from eating healthy, moving your body, loving yourself and others and living the best life you can! But yes indeed, keeping away from chemical nasties certainly helps! Peace out beauties xx
